| Hey and wow, we really needed an update! Why didn't any of you guys say anything to us? Okay, well I think I have a pretty good update and it's about something I've been thinking about for awhile now. Okay, well, on friday March 10th, my youth group and some friends and leaders from my church participated in a 30 hour famine. We had a lot of fun and we saved lives. Well if you don't know what a 30 hour famine is, it's when you don't eat for 30 hours ( to get a small taste of hunger,) and you collect donations ( the money goes to World Vision and they use it to feed starving people all around the world.) Well you have to go around and ask people to donate money and most people are more than glad to give, but I had a few people tell me "No." Well, our group raised over $1000 and counting. But the topic I want to discuss has to do with what one of the people said to me.
"Doesn't that money go towards feeding like kids in Africa and places like that?" "Yeah", I replied. "Well," they said, "I think we should focus on feeding kids in our own country before we start worrying about other countries, I mean you don't see them trying to help us." I was kinda stunned at this reply. " The money does go to feed kids in Africa, It goes to feed kids everywhere, including America."
That was pretty much the extent of the conversation. Well, when we got to the church, Phil, Jennie and I talked about it. Phil said exactly what I was thinking: "That sounds really selfish." And it does. God doesn't only care about the people in heaven, he cares about everyone. To say "Let's forget about our fellow humans across the sea, they can starve. Let's focus on our country." Yeah why not, our country full of materialistic, power hungry, egotistic, leading figures, who could be doing so much about it but are to worried about their next big publicity stunt. We have the power to do something about it but other countries don't. And they are our fellow humans, and to let them starve to death, it's inhamane, it's cruel,...and it's breaking God's heart.
Matthew 25:40 says: "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did to me.'
So by letting your fellow man starve to death, you're letting God starve to death. Think about that next time you eat lunch, or when someone asks you to donate for this or related causes, or when you see statistics like: "29,000 children die every day from hunger or hunger related causes, that's almost 1 child dying everytime you take a breath"
